Theme: In Hamlet, Shakespeare warns that when you don’t know
who you are, you are unable to effectively exercise moral judgment.
Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteOverall, you covered the play quite well. However, you could have been more thorough in your character analysis, i.e. for the ghost and Gertrude. Your character analysis for Horatio can be used as a model of a good description. For your plot summary, you seemed to get thin with the details in the end, especially in Act V. You didn’t mention Ophelia or anything much of the final battle. You also seem to be missing many pieces -- symbols, motifs, analysis of the theme statement? In fact, you don’t seem to have any analysis in this post -- you probably will want to put some in to study later on. Otherwise, good coverage of the plot, but it’d be helpful if you could provide more analysis.
Also, remember to put a couple of significant quotes so you don't lose points (and to study later on).
ReplyDeleteRachel, overall this is a great summary and analyses of Hamlet. However I think it would be strengthened if you added a bit more detail to the author, characters, theme statement and mentioned two quotes that you thought were significant to the story as a whole. I think if you further explained the significance of these parts this would be much stronger. Also, I think you could have mentioned some motifs and symbols, as well as the language and tools the author uses, but these minor details are not too significant. I know this summary was a little tough to write, especially since we have already taken the exam and so I do not think we will need to study this material again, however it is still important to cover everything listed on the blog instruction sheet, as well to be thorough yet concise. Overall you did a great job with being concise and this is a good summary, I think it could just be a little bit stronger with the things I mentioned above. Overall though, nice work!
