Okay, so seeing how we have basically been reviewing for the
final, this isn’t going to be awfully long.
The first thing that we’ve done
since being back was to finish our discussion of Hamlet. I think our hour did a
mighty fine job at it, we came up with a decent theme statement, although it
was a tad short, I think that it covered all of the bases.
I think our discussion was a little
lagging; we struggled on topics that thinking back, weren’t all that difficult
to grasp. I think our final four motifs really could have been grouped as two
major motifs, and had the other two be parts of the main ones. We got to that eventually,
but it took a while. I blame the break.
Although we were a little slow, we
did get to have a good discussion, I think that everything that was discussed
is important to the story, and it will help when it comes time to make the
theme post.
The other thing we did was review.
I think that it was a good idea to have a group page, but we had too much time
to complete it. I think if we had made the collaborative document a two day
project, and then given us the rest of the time to study by ourselves that it
would have had a bigger impact. I know that personally, I don’t learn very well
if I cant physically touch what I’m trying to learn (like flash cards) so, in
the end, it was a tad bit of a waste for me.
Also I think that in the end,
people were so desperate to add something, they were just copying and pasting
random things into the document, so even going back and trying to make a
personalized study guide gets a little tough because of all of the clutter. Not
to mention I can’t imagine having every thing that’s on our study guide on the
test.
Hi Rachel,
ReplyDeleteGreat job covering everything with your post! Although, granted, there wasn't too much to cover. Our class was more or less the same -- slow to get back into discussion. You're probably right: it's because of the break. I agree with you that the exam review got tedious by the end, but wouldn't you concede that it was nice to have to over fifty minds working together on a review instead of just your own? I found it pretty helpful, even if by the end people were just creating sample questions. There's not much I can say about this post because you certainly covered everything. In addition, there wasn't much opportunity for you to connect to the outside world. Overall, great job!
Rachel, I completely agree that the extremely long break through off our Hamlet discussions and prevented them from being as thorough as they could have been. Also, I’m impressed that your class was able to narrow the motifs down to only two. I am interested to see what they are when I read your Hamlet summary and analysis! My hour was only able to make three categories of motifs and from there, there was still about ten listed under each heading. I also agree that the collaborative review was somewhat a waste of our time. Overall I think most of the material was helpful; however I too wish we had only spent two or so days on it so that we would have had more time to personally study it in class. I think it was a very good idea in theory, but unfortunately I did not benefit from it as much as I should have I think because I waited to go over it and actually review it.
